STORY OF THE DAY
[Corrupting the countryâs soul, Zupta style: South Africa, you are on your own](
By MARIANNE THAMM
Who you gonna call? The Public Protector? Nah, she tripped up on a typo while trying to capture the Reserve Bank. Shaun Abrahams? Thieves have just broken into the NPA head offices and he hasnât raised an ample eyebrow or even made a public peep. The Hawks? Theyâre still circling the outer tundra of inertia and indifference. SAPS? Theyâre too busy investigating inside jobs at OR Tambo. The Minister of Police? Heâs tweeting. Weâre on our own, compatriots.
[Trump denies knowledge of Russian meeting](
President Donald Trump has opted to sail down the river of denial, stating he had no knowledge of his errant spawn's meeting with a Russian lawyer. Earlier on Tuesday Trump Jr opted to incriminate himself by tweeting email discussions between himself and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. In doing so, Trump Jr, who apparently retains security clearance, may have just painted a giant FBI-shaped spotlight on his back.
[Boko Haram kills five](
An ambush by Boko Haram on Nigerian troops in north-east Nigeria has killed three soldiers and two Islamists. The convoy had been moving outside of Gwoza, near the Cameroonian border when it was attacked by Boko Haram. After repelling the ambush, the Islamist fighters evidently fled back towards their mountain refuges near the border.
[Nasa probe peers into Jupiter's Red Spot](
Nasa has announced that its Juno spacecraft has successfully completed a mission to photograph the "Great Red Spot" of Jupiter. Pictures are expected to be released within days. The Great Red Spot is a giant 16,000km-wide storm that has been raging for centuries. Not much is known about its origins and physics. With luck, Juno might help with that.
[Expletive-laden Mayweather-McGregor exchange starts off roadshow](
Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor set off the powderkeg for their fight on Tuesday in a face-to-face meeting launching their promotion of the impending match. With expletives so profuse and flowing as to make a sailor blush, Mayweather was quick to claim verbal "victory". McGregor, ever the realist, acknowledged that his curse-laden delivery was aimed at encouraging the fight and getting fans excited.
