STORY OF THE DAY
[Removing Zuma: Mbete manoeuvres into the power play](
By RANJENI MUNUSAMY
After a high-octane news week in which President Jacob Zuma fully embraced the role of the enemy of the South African people, the focus shifts to the ANC headquarters on Monday for the next chess moves. Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete announced on Sunday that she would engage in a consultation process on the requests for a motion of no confidence in the president. Mbeteâs hasty return to South Africa has, however, more to do with the warfare inside the ANC than attending to the requests. While she would have to allow the parliamentary debate at some point, she appears to be involved in the mop-up operation after the dam walls burst in the ANC. By RANJENI MUNUSAMY.
[Mudslide in Colombia kills hundreds](
A mudslide in Mocoa, Colombia, has killed at least 254 people. Forty-three children are included in the dead. The small rural town of 40,000 people was hit hard by the mudslide, with authorities declaring the area to be in a state of emergency. Former rebel group FARC have offered to assist the government in rebuilding the town.
[Trump to 'fix' North Korea with or without China](
Amidst a major counter-submarine military exercise between American, Japanese and South Korean troops, President Donald Trump has vowed to "solve" North Korea if China will not. Speaking to British media, Trump was his typically vague self in terms of details but assured press that the US would "totally" succeed in unilateral action.
[Federer to skip clay this season](
Roger Federer will be skipping much of the clay court season this year and focusing on grass. The seven-time Wimbledon champion stated that he was "not 24 any more" and could not play tennis constantly. As such Federer will skip the Masters series events in Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome and focus instead on the showcase London tournament.
[Warhol piece fetches millions](
A portrait of Chinese leader Mao Zedong by Andy Warhol snagged the princely sum of $12.6-million. The piece was bought by an anonymous bidder at the Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong. It is the first such significant auction of Western artwork in now-Chinese Hong Kong.
