[Daily Maverick] AFTERNOON THING with JOHN STUPART Monday, 28th November 2016 WHILE YOU WERE WORKING [Black Monday for Zuma in the NEC] The ANC NEC's extended meeting is expected to last until late this evening, with members split on just what to do about Jacob Zuma. Talking heads appearing on media channels nationwide reckon Zuma will survive the trial by peers, with members favouring their own careers over the integrity of the ANC. [3 UN workers abducted in Darfur] Three UN Refugees Agency workers have been kidnapped in Geneina, Darfur. They were stopped by gunmen in a 4x4 and ordered to enter their vehicle. Although the current whereabouts and condition of the three hostages is unknown, the UNHCR has stated that it is discussing and working on the problem at hand. The 'solution' would lean more towards a ransom payment than a rescue mission. [Facebook bigot intends pleading guilty] The case against Dawie Kriel has been adjourned until next year. Kriel appeared briefly in Durban Magistrate's Court today, where he indicated his intention to plead guilty to charges relating to his racist rant on Facebook. Kriel vented about Diwali celebratory fireworks on social media, calling Hindus "devil disciples". [Hacking attack suspected in Germany] Around 900,000 users in Germany have been the victims of a cyber attack. Deutsche Telekom believed that a specific attack on a make of router used by its customers left almost a million Germans without internet since Sunday. Although the attacker remains unknown, Germany has blamed Russia for previous attacks. — FEATURED ARTICLES [The Endgame: Zuma on the ropes as ANC tactical manoeuvre unfolds] [The Endgame: Zuma on the ropes as ANC tactical manoeuvre unfolds] BY Ranjeni Munusamy [Analysis: Should Zuma lose, the dominoes would fall] [Analysis: Should Zuma lose, the dominoes would fall] BY Stephen Grootes [Op-Ed: The Invasion of the Body Snatchers – a weekend edition] [Op-Ed: The Invasion of the Body Snatchers – a weekend edition] BY Marianne Thamm [Zimbabwe braces for the worst as bond notes introduced] [Zimbabwe braces for the worst as bond notes introduced] BY Simon Allison [Video: Evita's Free Speech, Ep.66 – Evita in black for Friday and Fidel] [Video: Evita's Free Speech, Ep.66 – Evita in black for Friday and Fidel] BY Pieter-Dirk Uys [ISS Today: Africa should benefit most from new EU development vision] [ISS Today: Africa should benefit most from new EU development vision] BY ISS TODAY [Health-e News: Resignation and resurrection] [Health-e News: Resignation and resurrection] BY HEALTH-E NEWS [Africa’s most senior female judge: ‘Would these men even listen to me?’] [Africa’s most senior female judge: ‘Would these men even listen to me?’] BY Simon Allison [Letter from Trumplandia] [Letter from Trumplandia] BY Glen Retief [GroundUp: Small-scale fishers demand their rights] [GroundUp: Small-scale fishers demand their rights] BY GroundUp [Cricket: Five things we learnt from South Africa’s 2-1 series victory over Australia] [Cricket: Five things we learnt from South Africa’s 2-1 series victory over Australia] BY Antoinette Muller OPINIONISTAS [Raise High the Roof Beams, Cadres] [Raise High the Roof Beams, Cadres] A column by Mark Heywood [Shayne Ramsay’s politics of fear and hatred] [Shayne Ramsay’s politics of fear and hatred] A column by Andrew Ihsaan Gasnolar [FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO A FRIEND] Copyright © 2016 Daily Maverick, All rights reserved.
