[Public Protector: Court judgment provides more evidence of incompetence and misconduct](
By Pierre De Vos
The decision by the Gauteng High Court to review and set aside the Public Protectorâs Estina Dairy Farm Project Report raises new questions about the honesty and competence of the incumbent, Busisiwe Mkhwebane. While it is normal for constitutional office bearers to err from time to time and while they should not be removed from office merely for making an honest mistake, the findings against Mkhwebane contained in three different court judgments are so egregious that it has probably irrevocably tainted her credibility and has eroded public trust in her ability to act in a fair, impartial and legally informed manner to protect the public.

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING
[May offers too little, too late](
Brexit doldrums returned with a force today as Prime Minister Theresa May's last-minute appeal fell flat. May offered opposition members a shot at a second referendum on Brexit, but on the condition that they accept her current Brexit deal first. Labour leaders were joined by several Conservative Party members in rubbishing the offer. May might well have tried her last gambit before she is shown the door.
[EPA to rewrite cost-benefit pollution rules](
EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler has instructed officials to rewrite the rules determining the human cost of pollution levels vs those saved by mitigation efforts. With this firmly under the Trump thumb, environmentalists argued that the EPA were ultimately seeking to make climate change policy harder to change following the Trump administration.
[South Africa to extradite Mozambican ex-minister](
Mozambique's former finance minister Manuel Chang will be sent home to face charges relating to a $2-billion debt scandal. Justice Minister Michael Masutha announced Chang's extradition late yesterday, in a move aimed at appeasing extradition requests by both Mozambique and the United States.
[California sues for its train money](
California is taking the Trump administration to court over a $1 billion high-speed rail grant. The US Department of Transport took away the grant because California's lawyers argued, the administration had a disdain for the state. That, and they added that the department simply lacked the authority to do so.
