[Business in a time of State Capture: The Glencore story](
By Jessica Bezuidenhout
For seven months, global commodities firm Glencore found itself cornered, stonewalled and punished as it tried to cling to Optimum Coal Mine amid interventions by government officials and Eskom executives allegedly intent on forcing a sale to the Guptas.

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING
[Cohen names names during]([hearing](
In a mammoth testimony before Congress, Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen described a litany of "misdeeds" perpetrated for and by the president. Cohen described the general practice of hush money payments on behalf of Trump, overstating his net worth to secure loans and insurance deals. Although Cohen made reference to documents and evidence, investigators are unlikely to find many gleaming gems of hard proof in Cohen's testimony.
[Speed unimportant for Trump-Kim talks](
President Trump has largely been too busy presidenting to pay attention to the Cohen hearings, holding much-awaited talks with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un. Trump stressed that speed was not important in terms of when a resolution on North Korea's disarmament would or could take place. On the bright side, Dear Leader, for the first time in history, answered a question from an American reporter.
[Tesla shares march on as Musk tweets](
Despite the SEC loathing Elon Musk's social media habits, the Tesla chief has bumped his company's shares up with just one tweet. In his Wednesday post, Musk hinted at a big announcement coming today. Tesla spokespeople refused to elaborate, adding more fuel to the speculative fire. Before you get excited about a Tesla Y model or the like, it is possible Musk will be talking about how they will be settling a maturing bond with cash. Yawn.
[British Airways eyes 777X as 747 replacement](
British Airways is tending towards the Boeing 777X as a replacement for its 747 jumbo jet fleet. Sources close to the replacement programme noted to Bloomberg that a deal on the matter could be announced as soon as today. With 34 747s set for retirement in the next five years, the 777X, together with the longest wingspan ever produced by Boeing, could also be augmented by purchases of Airbus A350-100 jets.
