Story of the Day
[As Saudi Arabiaâs diplomatic crisis worsens, SA remains silent â because of the Denel deal, critics claim](
By Rebecca Davis
Saudi Arabia may pay a heavy diplomatic and financial price for the disappearance of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi. International criticism of the Saudi government has been steadily amplifying, with threats of sanctions from the US and calls from European nations for a full investigation into Khashoggiâs fate. From South Africa, however, there has been silence â raising questions about whether potential Saudi investment in state arms company Denel could be playing a role.

[Microsoft co-founder dies](
Paul Allen, the man who helped create Microsoft with Bill Gates, has died at the age of 65. Allen had recently announced that he was struggling with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which ultimately claimed his life. The billionaire was worth a staggering $26.1-billion, due in no small part to his role in bringing the Windows operating system - and a new way of using computers - to every desktop in the world.
[Trump suggests 'rogue killers' behind Saudi murder](
In a stunning feat of denial in the face of growing evidence, President Donald Trump has suggested that "rogue killers" may be behind the brutal murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was en route to Saudi Arabia in order to hear first-hand what Riyadh's version of events was. While leaders on both sides wallow in denials, businesses have taken a step ahead by boycotting a massive "Future Investment Initiative" conference in Riyadh.
[Australian parliament narrowly avoid 'okay to be white' vote](
A resolution tabled in Australia's parliament on Monday stated "it is okay to be white", narrowly missing being adopted by 31 votes to 28. Attorney General Christian Porter had - he said mistakenly - issued orders for his Liberal Party to back the motion. It is unclear what is scarier about Australian politics: the motion itself, that it almost passed, or that nobody in the governing party reads the day's motions in any significant detail.
[Conservative dating app faces data leaks](
DonaldDaters, essentially Tinder for Trump fans, has been hacked on the day it launched. TechCrunch reported on Monday that DonaldDaters had leaked its entire user base's information within hours of launch. On the plus side, only 1,600 fans of Trump appeared to want to hook up at all through the app, greatly reducing the impact of the hack. Making Americans Date Again, it seems, will require some better software.
