Xolobeni mining rights cause frayed tempers

[Click here for the web version of this email]( [Daily Maverick] TGIF, 5 October 2018 While You Were Working [All eyes on Xolobeni]( Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe has alluded to a possible granting of mineral rights to an Australian company for the mining of the Wild Coast. Except, the department has not yet confirmed or denied any decision. As a result, the Xolobeni community is simmering with discontent over the entire process and the very real possibility that the mining operation will not benefit them at all. [Nobel Peace Prize for anti-rape activists]( Never mind Barack Obama's pre-award, because Nadia Murad and Denis Mukwege have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their work in campaigning against rape in warfare. The list included mountain biker Shan Wilson, who has had his fifth place in the Absa Cape Epic removed. Carmen Buchacher was also banned for doping violations. Lance Armstrong step aside, apparently. [Toyota announces mass recall of hybrids]( Millions of hybrid model Toyotas are being recalled over a fault the automaker believes could cause crashes. If you own a Prius or Auris hybrid model manufactured between October 2008 and November 2014, your car might well be on the list. Some 2.4 million vehicles are expected to be recalled. The fault, Toyota stated, could cause your vehicle to stall. That beats an exploding Ford, but not by much.
