Patriotic Alliance pulls out of anti-Trollip coalition

[Click here for the web version of this email]( [Daily Maverick] Thursday, 16 August 2018 While You Were Working [EFF's Trollip beef scuppered by Patriotic Alliance]( The Patriotic Alliance has announced today that it will not be supporting the EFF's bid to pass a vote of no confidence against the DA's Athol Trollip. The Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor has been the focus of repeated attempts by a coalition of provincial opposition parties to unseat him. The PA withdrew largely due to a statement by the EFF, with Mbuyiseni Ndlozi calling the PA a party of "thugs". [Springs Monster found guilty]( A suspect accused of abusing his children for decades has been found guilty by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria. Termed the "Springs Monster", the convicted man was accused of multiple charges ranging from rape to attempted murder. [Keita re-elected in Mali]( Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has been re-elected leader of his country in a landslide electoral victory. The 73-year-old won 67.17% of the vote, bolstered largely by running on a platform of fighting an ongoing Islamist insurgency in the country. That, and a major dose of voter apathy. [FT chief to return portion of salary raise]( John Ridding, the chief executive of the Financial Times, has announced that he would return some of his hefty pay increase back to the organisation. Ridding received a 25% increase in pay to a whopping $3.2-million. After protests from FT staff, Ridding agreed to give back over half of the increase.
