[Political brinkmanship vs Governance: Ramaphosaâs move to amend SA Constitution kickstarts 2019 elections season](
By Marianne Merten
In an unprecedented move, Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation as ANC president in whatâs traditionally a slot reserved for the head of state. This blurring of the lines between party and state shows the pressure on the governing ANC, particularly on the economy and land expropriation without compensation. And in a bizarre twist the ANC lekgotla and Ramaphosa effectively kicked Parliament to the kerb â announcing a constitutional amendment to âclarifyâ expropriation without compensation as the parliamentary public hearings and processes remain under way.

[Trump considering increased tariffs](
President Donald Trump is now contemplating a 25% tithe on $200-billion's worth in Chinese imports. The new percentage is more than twice Trump's initial tariff amount. The trade deficit with China, it seems, is really starting to bug Trump.
[Tensions mounts as Zimbabwe counts](
Zimbabwean electoral officials continue counting votes despite the opposition MDC claiming victory. Rumours and whispers of widespread meddling have only contributed to increasing tensions, with government officials threatening opposition members with arrest for prematurely announcing a result. The ZEC predict that counting might well go into a fifth allowed day.
[Facebook shuts down mid-term meddling campaign](
At least 30 fake pages and profiles were shut down by Facebook on Tuesday. The social media giant revealed that the associated pages were part of a "co-ordinated" objective of meddling in the US's mid-term elections. Although whispers of "Russia" have now flooded Facebook's post-statement wake, the House of Zuckerberg is keeping mum. For now.
[Apple's profit leaps](
Apple announced on Tuesday that its quarterly profit had increased more than 30%. The $11.5-billion profit translated to 41.3-million iPhones sold, with or without headphone jacks. As a result, the company's market value is now approaching $1-trillion.
