New shelter aims to house homeless over Cape Town winter

[Click here for the web version of this email]( [Daily Maverick]( TGIF, 6 July 2018 While You Were Working [CT shelter opens its doors to winter-struck homeless]( A new shelter for hundreds of homeless people has been unveiled in Cape Town. As winter temperatures grip the city, the shelter will be fully completed in mid-July. Designed as a voluntary "safe space" the Foreshore-based facility should be able to accommodate 230 people, and hopefully be more than just a temporary fix. [Zuma's son briefly detained]( Ex-president Jacob Zuma's son Duduzane Zuma is back in South Africa. Accused of culpable homicide, Zuma was briefly detained at OR Tambo Airport before being released. Zuma had evidently returned to attend the funeral of Vusi Nhlakanipho Zuma. In addition, Duduzane Zuma is expected to appear in court on Monday, with the matter likely to be postponed. Speaking at a press conference in Harare today, EU chief election observer Elmar Brok stated that "these elections are a critical test of Zimbabwe's reform process". Considering that this might be the first semi-free and semi-fair elections in Zimbababwe in decades, that is an understatement of note.
