[Daily Maverick] AFTERNOON THING with JOHN STUPART Wednesday, 13 December 2017 WHILE YOU WERE WORKING [State Capture review tossed out, Zuma to cough up]( President Jacob Zuma must pay the legal costs of his attempts to prevent the release of the Public Protector's State of Capture report. He is the first South African president in history to be slapped with personal costs. A unanimous High Court reprimanded Zuma for his "flagrant disregard" of the constitutional sanctity of the Public Protector. At least Zuma's pockets will be lighter when he trots into Nasrec centre this weekend. [US to 'cautiously' re-engage with Zimbabwe]( The United States revealed today that it would be cautiously re-engaging Zimbabwe following President Robert Mugabe's ignominious fall from Grace. One Republican senator likened Zimbabwe to a "nightmare", expressing cynicism that much could be achieved there under Emmerson Mnangagwa's watch. This naturally sets a very difficult diplomatic tone for US-Zimbabwean relations going forward. [Bon Jovi, Nina Simone to enter Rock and Roll Hall of Fame]( Bon Jovi and Nina Simone, along with Dire Straits, will all be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While Bon Jovi and Dire Straits seem like no-brainer entries for the illustrious hall, Nina Simone's inclusion drastically broadens the theme and definition of what Rock and Roll, and its influences, could include. Anyone who has listened to Nina Simone, however, should have cause to rejoice regardless. [York refuses Uber licence]( The City of York has joined London in its disdain for ride-sharing app Uber. The city denied a licence to operate for Uber, adding to the company's ongoing woes with London's authorities. Much like London, Uber has a 21-day period to lodge an appeal and begin the corporate mea culpa. British cities, it seems, are getting weary of Uber's rogue methods in the way it treats its drivers.
