This is a great goal for November, but even if we pull it off it won't be enough. In order to prevent future obstruction of our priorities, we must eliminate the filibuster. The filibuster impedes legislative progress, requiring a supermajority of 60 Senators to pass bills. It is an archaic rule that doesn’t exist in the Constitution and allows just 41 senators to block legislation, giving a minority of senators total power over which bills Congress can pass. The filibuster is entirely [undemocratic]( and [rooted in racism](. But there is some good news. Sen. Krysten Sinema, who made a habit out of blocking Democratic legislation via supporting the filibuster, is on her way out. With her departure, as well as Sen. Joe [Manchin’s](, we now are rid of two filibuster champions. Good riddance!
