This isn't anything new, Big Tech has been sucking up an ever-growing share of this coveted revenue stream for nearly a decade now. It is now almost impossible for news organizations to survive on advertising revenue. News organizations have had to evolve their business models in order to survive. Some have expensive subscriptions or lock up their content behind a paywall. Neither of these options felt like they supported Daily Kos's mission of fighting for democracy. Instead, we asked our readers and activists to donate a few dollars at a time to support our work and keep our content accessible to everyone.
