Friend, after an all-out attack from conservative activists and right-wing media, Claudine Gay, the first Black person to be president of Harvard University, resigned after just six months in the position. Her resignation is seen as a [victory in the right's war](against diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. This is just the latest example that illustrates the power and influence that right-wing media has on the national agenda and consciousness, and of how good they are at using it to achieve their advocacy goals. [Support progressive news and activism with a donation of $5 or more to Daily Kos.]( [DONATE]( For decades now, conservatives have been building up their media infrastructure. They dominated talk radio with Alex Jones and Rush Lambaugh, Fox News has been the top-rated cable news network for two decades, and they have leveraged social media to garner a growing audience. Unfortunately, all other news outlets—and especially progressive outlets—have been struggling financially. The problem is that almost every news outlet relies on advertising revenue to cover expenses. Unfortunately, Big Tech like Facebook, Google, and Amazon have taken an ever-growing share of this coveted revenue stream. The end result has been staff layoffs and other budget cuts that affect quality of content, or in some dire cases, outlets have completely shut down. Daily Kos hasn't escaped the financial struggles that have plagued other outlets. Fortunately, we have survived difficult times thanks to our readers and activists donating what they can to support our work. Daily Kos is the country's largest progressive news and activism hub, but we are dwarfed by the right-wing media infrastructure. As 2024 unfolds, with the critical upcoming elections and the fate of our democracy on the line, it is more important than ever that Daily Kos doesn't just survive, but that we thrive. [That's why I am writing to you today. Daily Kos has survived for over 20 years because of the support of our community. Please support progressive news and activism by making a $5 or more donation to Daily Kos today.]( [DONATE]( Thank you for all you do, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos If you wish to donate by mail instead, please send a check to Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
