Friend, In order to continue government funding and avoid a government shutdown, Congressional leade

Friend, [sign the petition to Congress: Make the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share. Fully fund the IRS.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( In order to continue government funding and avoid a government shutdown, Congressional leaders Chuck Schumer and Mike Johnson have [reached]( a spending deal. One glaring concession by Democrats: Additional IRS cuts. Fully funding the IRS provides the resources to go after wealthy tax cheats, improve taxpayer services, and modernize computer systems that will help apply our current tax laws more fairly. Republicans are racing to gut the IRS in order to protect the ultra-wealthy. [Sign the petition to Congress: Make the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share. Fully fund the IRS.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Resourcing the IRS is not just about making the wealthy pay their fair share. The IRS has an [ugly history]( of auditing low-income and Black people at disproportionately high rates, in part because it costs more in staff time and resources to audit wealthy taxpayers, whose returns are more complicated than the average filer (and whose lawyers make these audits more challenging). When they have the resources to go after the rich, this dynamic [changes](. Taking resources away from the IRS effectively redistributes money to the wealthy and corporations. As the funding deal goes to Congress for approval, we must remind them that protecting and maintaining IRS funding is essential for achieving a fair tax code. It's vital for actively eliminating anti-Black racism from the implementation of our tax policy, and ensuring the wealthiest tax cheats finally pay their fair share.
