Friend, this January, instead of prioritizing corporations, Congress must prioritize the well-being

Friend, this January, instead of prioritizing corporations, Congress must prioritize the well-being of our nation's children by expanding the Child Tax Credit (CTC). Before Thanksgiving, a worrying [16% of U.S. households]( with children reported inadequate food availability, a significant rise from 10.4% in the summer of 2021, right before the cessation of the expanded CTC. [Sign the petition to Congress: Put children over corporations! Expand the Child Tax Credit!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( The current structure of the CTC [excludes 19 million children]( from its full benefits. As Congress deliberates on a potential tax package, there is a crucial opportunity to reform the CTC to include the low-income families currently missing out. However, [House Republicans]( are instead advocating for a corporate-centric tax plan, seeking to reinstate the bonus depreciation rule that lets corporations fully deduct certain expenses yearly. Active from 2018-2022, this [provision]( resulted in significantly lowered corporate taxes with minimal broader economic benefit. The primary beneficiaries of these tax breaks were corporate executives and shareholders rather than workers or the community. If made permanent, this rule could cost the American public an estimated $325 billion in lost revenue over the next decade. The expanded Child Tax Credit, offering an additional $250 to $300 monthly per child in 2021, significantly cut child poverty and was a lifeline for countless families, primarily spent on essentials and education. This temporary boost proved effective in alleviating poverty and supporting children's well-being. [Sign the petition to Congress: Put children over corporations!
