Increasing investment in urban trees and forests is key to meeting the moment. ---------------------

Increasing investment in urban trees and forests is key to meeting the moment. [National Forest Service: There’s an “urgent nationwide need to plant and maintain more urban trees.”]( [TAKE ACTION]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Dear friend, Urban parks are critical to building resilience to climate change — but right now, the U.S. isn’t investing nearly enough to keep up with demand. In fact, the National Forest Service just announced there’s an “urgent nationwide need to plant and maintain more urban trees,” saying they just received requests for more than four times the funds they have the ability to give to support urban parks and forests. With the effects of climate change growing every day, increasing investment in urban trees and forests is key to building climate resilience. Together, we can spur our lawmakers to act: [Add your name to tell Congress to strengthen the Urban and Community Forestry Program.]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( By planting more urban parks and forests, we’re creating tree canopy that combats the “heat island effect,” which causes cities to get particularly hot during extreme warm weather. This is especially important for combatting the disparity in parkland caused by racist development practices like redlining, and thus the disparity in how the effects of climate change are experienced. The Urban and Community Forestry Program is the federal government’s only dedicated urban forest program. While a good first step, it’s clear we need to do more. [That’s why we’re asking you to add your name to tell Congress to strengthen the Urban and Community Forestry Program today.]( [SIGN NOW]( It’s easy to look at climate news and respond with despair. But together, we can unite to build stronger, more climate-resilient communities. Sincerely, Hope Kelley Boston Food Forest Coalition P.S. Urban parks aren’t just important in the face of climate change – these spaces also can help build community, uniting neighbors in climate action! We just need the resources to build them where they’re needed most: [Add your name to tell Congress to invest more in building urban parks and forests.]( Paid for by Boston Food Forest Coalition.
