Hey, I want to make sure you saw Michael's email from earlier today. The news media is rooting for Democrats to fail—from the 2022 "red wave" that never materialized to the 2023 recession that never happened (check out the [gargantuan]( third quarter numbers just released), pundits have been predicting Democratic doom through the whole Biden era. Media outlets are addicted to a "both sides" narrative, but those sorts of stories were always B.S. and they're downright dangerous when one political party is led by a wannabe dictator facing 91 felony charges. Daily Kos is a progressive, independent news outlet. We don't push B.S. "both sides" narratives and we're not beholden to any billionaire backer or big corporate sponsors. Our biggest source of income is readers like you each chipping in a few bucks at a time to support our work. We like it that way because it keeps us accountable to you. [Right now, Daily Kos is $71,567 away from its monthly fundraising goal. The House couldn't take action on any issue without a speaker, and Republicans couldn't agree on one—for three weeks! So, naturally, the story on CNN was: Let me make this very simple: The media is rooting for Democrats to fail. Last year, as evidence piled up that Democrats were in for a good midterm election, the media obsessively reported on the coming "red wave." (It didn't materialize.) The doom-y stories about a major recession that was seemingly always just around the corner kept coming for more than a year, but inflation has come down while the economy has continued to hum—and jobs and wages have continued to grow. Now, with Republicans having paralyzed Congress for three weeks, pundits are looking to make this a bad-news story for Democrats. I'm sick and tired of this $#@!. Daily Kos isn't here to push nonsense narratives for the sake of "balance." We're a proudly independent, progressive news outlet. Our biggest source of income is donations of just a few bucks at a time from readers and activists like you. It's a model that keeps us free from the shady private agendas of billionaire backers and the corrosive influence of big corporate sponsors. We set some big goals this year to help keep us that way, and that's why I'm writing to you today. [Daily Kos is $78,505 away from its monthly fundraising goal and we only have six days left.
