Friend, Congress is tasked with passing 12 different spending bills to fund government operations. Even in the best of times (like when Democrats lead both chambers and hold the Oval Office), appropriations is a time-consuming, onerous process. And right now, MAGA Republicans' clownish antics and [cruel demands]( continue to block progress, increasing the likelihood of a costly, unnecessary shutdown in November. There is no negotiating with elected officials who do not respect the office they hold or the country they serve. Unless something changes, and soon, Republicans will drag the United States into another costly shutdown. [No more 11th-hour stopgap deals that kick the can down the road. Republicans must work with Democrats to find a long-term solution. Sign the petition to Congress: No government shutdown.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Keep fighting, Monique Teal, Daily Kos P.S. Read more about the consequences Americans experience as a result of GOP shutdowns below. --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, while a temporary deal was reached to avert a government shutdown in October, Congress only has until November 17 to pass yet another funding bill–or the government will shut down. The outlook doesn't look good: Instead of working on a practical long-term solution, House Republicans like Jim Jordan are already [threatening]( to hold the country hostage over absurd partisan demands. [Sign the petition to Congress: No government shutdown!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( A [shutdown]( would result in furloughs for federal workers deemed nonessential. Essential workers would be forced to work without pay. Programs like the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) would be paused, upending vital support for low-income families. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, military spending, veterans’ benefits, public health, federal law enforcement, federal interest payments, and more could also be at risk. Congress had months to fund the government and didn't. We will not stand for Americans to pay for failures of Republican "leadership." Sign the petition to urge House members to find a long-term solution.
