Friend, The United Auto Workers strike isn't just about a pay raise. It's about leveling the playing

Friend, [add your name: Stand shoulder to shoulder with United Auto Workers!]( [Sign the petition]( The United Auto Workers strike isn't just about a pay raise. It's about leveling the playing field in an industry that's been grown wealthier thanks to the skill and sacrifices of its workforce. When CEOs pad their pockets with colossal bonuses while workers can barely make ends meet, something is deeply wrong. These brave auto workers have put it all on the line for better wages, equitable treatment, and a fair share in the booming industry they help build and sustain. They helped these companies survive the Great Recession and now make their massive profits possible. Yet, they're still fighting for basics like medical benefits for retirees and cost of living adjustments. Let's not allow corporate greed to rob them of their rightful share. [Add your name: Stand shoulder to shoulder with United Auto Workers!]( [Sign the petition]( Thanks for all you do, Romario Brown, Daily Kos P.S. See below for our earlier email on the UAW's fight with Detroit's big three automakers: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, in a historic first, United Auto Workers (UAW) members are on strike against the Big Three automakers all at once. Auto workers authorized the strike after Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis (formerly Fiat Chrysler) refused to negotiate a fair share of corporate profits during contract negotiations. So far, UAW has only [stopped work at a handful of facilities]( but is committed to increasing actions as necessary. [Add your name: Solidarity with United Auto Workers!]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( UAW's demands include higher wages; ending the tiered employment system that allows the Big 3 to pay newer workers less; restoring previous benefits, like cost of living adjustments; ensuring medical benefits for retirees; and more. Thanks to the skill and sacrifices of UAW members, the Big 3 reportedly raked in a [combined $21 billion in profits]( in just the first six months of 2023—on top of the quarter-trillion dollars in North American profits they made over the last ten years. While shareholders have enjoyed [nearly $66 billion]( in stock buybacks and dividends and [CEOs have given themselves astronomical raises](, UAW wages have only increased by 6%, and the average consumer prices have increased nearly 40%. [Add your name: Solidarity with United Auto Workers!]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( During the Great Recession, workers made large financial sacrifices—like ending cost of living adjustments—in order to keep automakers afloat. Now these same wealthy corporations are attempting to nickel-and-dime workers at the negotiating table. Unacceptable! [The Big 3 have the means]( to meet worker demands, remain profitable, and make further investments in the industry. Auto workers shared the hardship, they deserve to enjoy the boom times. Let's show resounding support for UAW as they take on corporate greed and negotiate for better compensation and working conditions!
