Friend, it's been a rough year for news media outlets. Far too many have seen their advertising revenue diminish. For some, this meant continued support from a billionaire backer, adding a paywall, or increasing the cost for a subscription. For others, it meant financial cuts, staff layoffs, or in the case of Buzzfeed News, shutting down. Meanwhile, progressive advocacy organizations have followed a similar pattern. With Trump no longer in office, fundraising has dried up. Just like news media outlets, progressive advocacy groups have been facing some financial struggles. Why do I mention all this? Because Daily Kos sits at the crossroads of news media and progressive activism. [Daily Kos isn't immune from these financial struggles. We need to raise another $122,596 by the end of the month to make ends meet. Can you help Daily Kos survive with a donation of $5?]( [DONATE]( Daily Kos is the country's largest progressive and independent news and activism hub, but really, we are so much more than that. Not only do we deliver the news and provide the tools to have a real impact on elections, policy, and so much more, we give our community a real voice. This means not only letting readers post comments—a minimal interactive service that most other news outlets are ending—but giving them the ability to post their own stories, and even to determine which community article appears high up on the front page of our website for an extended period of time. In fact, many of our most widely read articles are written by our community! Over the past year, Daily Kos has been staving off our own financial struggles. If Daily Kos were to disappear tomorrow, nothing would take our place because no one else does the work we do. [That's why I am asking for your support today. Please support grassroots-driven, community supported progressive news and activism with a donation of $5 to Daily Kos. Help us reach our August fundraising goal.]( [DONATE]( Thanks for all you do, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos If you wish to donate by mail instead, please send a check to Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
