Friend, during the Trump-era, money poured into progressive advocacy organizations aiming to stop Trump's fascist influence over our democracy. Many organizations, including Daily Kos, invested the influx of money into expanding staff and developing new tools to meet the urgency of the time—it was worth every penny. [With the 2024 elections on the horizon, we need to work just as hard to defeat Trump and his cronies now as we did in 2020. Unfortunately, we have seen our revenue drop over the last few years. Please support Daily Kos with a donation of $5 today.]( [DONATE]( Now that Trump has been ousted from the White House, money has dried up for many organizations. For some, the current cash flow cannot sustain the number and size of progressive organizations that materialized during the Trump administration. Many organizations have had to make difficult decisions and financial cuts in order to survive. Just this week a [progressive organization]( announced they were reducing their staff. Unfortunately, some haven't survived, like one-time progressive powerhouse [Democracy for America]( which shut down earlier this year. Daily Kos is no stranger to difficult times and hard decisions. Earlier this year we were forced to make deep financial cuts and other changes in hopes of improving our revenue. Finally, after months of work, we are starting to see the impacts of those changes, but we can't backtrack now. Unlike other advocacy organizations and news outlets, Daily Kos doesn't rely on just one source of revenue—we rely on three: community fundraising, advertising, and list building, in which Democratic and progressive campaigns pay for the opportunity to make their case to our readers over email. Unfortunately, the latter two of these sources of revenue are lagging behind projections for the majority of the year. The truth is that Daily Kos has come to rely more and more on donations from our readers and activists to help make ends meet. In fact, donations of just a few dollars from tens of thousands of supporters now accounts for our largest source of income to pay our bills and fuel our work. We don't have billionaire backers to fall back on when things get tight. We have you, friend, and thousands of grassroots supporters. We know that in order to keep operating, we have to fight and deliver for what you believe in. [We vow to fight to protect our democracy regardless of Daily Kos' financial struggles. That means we need your support, friend. Help us kickstart the 2024 election with a donation of $5 right now.]( [DONATE]( Thanks for all you do, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos If you wish to donate by mail instead, please send a check to Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
