The good news? [They failed](. A ballot measure protecting reproductive rights in Ohio[will now be]( on the November 2023 ballot, and it will only need a simple majority to pass. This is a victory for democracy and reproductive freedom. Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, abortion is [now banned or tightly restricted in 20 states](—and Republican politicians everywhere are passing new laws that severely limit this right. Despite this, we can fight back and win at the state level, because [even in red states](, abortion rights are popular. In 2022, voters in six states from across the political spectrum—from blue California and Vermont to swingy Michigan to deep red Kansas, Kentucky, and Montana—[all defeated abortion bans and restrictions on reproductive rights]( or passed constitutional amendments that protect the right to an abortion. [Many more states can—and should—follow suit. Democratic-run legislatures in New York and Maryland have already placed such measures on their ballots for next year, too. Abortion is a human right, no matter what the far-right majority on the Supreme Court may say. In every state where it's possible to further enshrine our rights, we need to take action to make it happen. The people are on our side, and it's time we get it done.
