Friend, it's no secret that news media outlets have been struggling to make ends meet. [Daily Kos hasn't been immune from these financial troubles. We have relied more and more on donations from our community to make ends meet. We need to raise $38,531 to make our July fundraising goal. Can you donate $5 today?]( [DONATE]( The financial challenges that news media companies face have been varied, including internet behemoths like Facebook, Apple, Amazon and Google sucking up an ever greater share of digital advertising revenue, the shift of audience engagement across platforms, the COVID pandemic, or the uncertainty of the economy. Most news media companies have faced layoffs, and some have not survived. Those that have been able to continue have found other sources of revenue besides advertising. For example, the Washington Post has Jeff Bezos, the New York Times has their subscription programs, and the Wall Street Journal has a paywall. Daily Kos has also faced financial difficulties. However, we have survived because of our community of readers and activists donating what they can. In fact, our largest source of income are small donations from our community. This makes us accountable to our grassroots donors, rather than to big corporate advertisers or a billionaire backer. [Please support grassroots-driven, community supported progressive news and activism with a donation of $5 to Daily Kos.]( [DONATE]( Thank you for all you do, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos If you wish to donate by mail instead, please send a check to Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
