Friend, Wealthy corporations like Intuit, the maker of TurboTax, and H&R Block brokered a sweetheart

Friend, [sign the petition: Tax prep should be free and easy. Support direct filing for tax returns.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Wealthy corporations like Intuit, the maker of TurboTax, and H&R Block brokered a sweetheart deal, promising to offer low-income taxpayers free software in exchange for the IRS not making a free filing program of its own. Of course, these companies then made the "free" options difficult to use by deploying deceptive design and misleading tactics to steer low-income filers to paid versions of their service when they are eligible to file for free. Thanks to sustained advocacy, the IRS finally [announced]( a new tax filing software that will go live for a select group in 2024. This question-based software will allow people to send their returns electronically to the government for free. Americans shouldn’t have to pay wealthy corporations in order to use a program to file taxes online. A free alternative is possible, and everyone should have access. Join us in encouraging the IRS to make this software broadly available as soon as possible so everyone will have a public option for electronic tax filing.
