Friend, the [Supreme Court]( ended its term by doling out rulings that discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community and kill President Biden's student debt relief program. The court also ended race-based affirmative action for colleges, which could have implications for hiring practices as well . This all comes a year after the court overturned a nearly 50-year precedent of federally protecting abortion care access. The conservative supermajority on the court is systematically stripping away the freedoms for which so many of us have fought. We can't give up hope. Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito are the two oldest, and most ethically-challenged, justices sitting on the court. It is possible that they could be replaced in the coming years. We can protect our rights by ensuring that Democrats control both the White House and the Senate after the 2024 election. [This is the time in the election cycle that we need to start building our own infrastructure to support Democrats running for office, up and down the ballot in every corner of the country. Instead, we are focused on our own grassroots fundraising—our largest source of funding—so we can pay our bills. Can you support Daily Kos and our work with a monthly donation of $5?]( [If you can't commit to a monthly donation, a one-time donation of $5 will still have a huge impact. We have to win in order to ensure our rights and protect our democracy. In 2020, we recruited over 111,000 volunteers from our community of grassroots activists to help turn out the vote using innovative tools and a wide variety of proven get out the vote methods. We also raised over $14 million for candidates and progressive community groups to help register, educate and turn out voters. If we want to stop a Republican fascist takeover of our courts and Congress, we need to do better than we did in 2020. Unfortunately, the last six months have been financially hard for Daily Kos. We have seen two out of three of our revenue sources continually miss their projections. So instead of fundraising for future candidates and grassroots organizations that mobilize voters in their communities, we have had to pour our energy into making sure that we, as an organization, can make our own ends meet. [We can protect our freedoms and rights by electing more and better Democrats not just to the Senate, but up and down the ballot. That's why I am writing to you today, friend: Can you support Daily Kos and our work with a monthly donation of $5?]( [If you can't make a monthly contribution, please consider making a one-time donation to support the work Daily Kos does every day.]( Thank you for all you do, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos If you wish to donate by mail instead, please send a check to Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
