Friend, there are not many progressive organizations that have been around as long as Daily Kos. There certainly are not many digital news outlets that have survived for 21 years like Daily Kos has. Daily Kos is unique. We sit at the crossroads of news and activism, bringing you news from a progressive point of view while also giving you the power to take immediate and effective action on what you just read. There is no other organization that does the work we do–and we need your help to keep producing the work you have come to trust. Unfortunately, the last five months have been hard for Daily Kos financially. We have seen two out of three of our revenue sources continually miss their projections. So instead of fundraising for future candidates and grassroots organizations that mobilize voters in their communities, we have had to pour our energy into making sure that we, as an organization, can make our own ends meet. [No one else does the work Daily Kos does. If we were to disappear tomorrow, nothing would be able to take our place. Please support the unique work Daily Kos does every day by making a monthly donation of $5 or whatever amount is meaningful to you.]( [If you can't commit to a monthly donation, a one-time donation of $5 will still have a huge impact. Please click here to donate.]( Thank you for all you do, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, 21 years ago, Markos Moulitsas posted his first diary to a site that would eventually become Daily Kos: Over the next two decades, that one-person blog that served as an outlet to vent about George Bush's destructive policies grew to become the country's largest progressive news and activism hub. But really, Daily Kos is even more than that—we are truly a progressive community. [Daily Kos is the only progressive, participatory, grassroots-funded site delivering news you can do something about. You can support our work by making a monthly donation of $5 today.]( [If you can't make a monthly contribution, please consider making a one-time donation to support the work Daily Kos does every day.]( Daily Kos has survived in a grueling industry that for decades has been plagued by budget cuts, layoffs, mergers, and closures due to decreasing revenue. However, Daily Kos hasn't been immune to the financial hardships that have shuttered so many other progressive news outlets and advocacy organizations. Like many other news media outlets, we saw our advertising income tumble over the past decade. There are various reasons for this: Big Tech taking an ever growing share of the advertising revenue, changes in social media algorithms, and people just consuming news differently. A decade ago, as we are now, we were facing some hard financial choices. We reached out to our readers and activists to ask for their support. The response was overwhelming. Since then, community donations make up over half of our revenue. Today, advertising still makes up a big chunk of our revenue, however, that chunk continues to shrink. With the uncertainty of the economy, many companies are cutting back on their advertising budgets. On top of that, advertisers are paying less for people to see their ads. This all adds up to less revenue to cover our expenses and bills. That's why I am asking for your help, Friend. If Daily Kos were to disappear tomorrow—which has happened to scores of news media outlets over the past decade—nothing would ever take our place. [For the first few months of 2023, Daily Kos has missed our revenue projections. We have been relying more and more on our readers and activists to make up the difference. Can you support community-driven and community-funded news and activism by donating $5 a month to Daily Kos?]( [If you can't commit to a monthly donation, a one-time donation of $5 will still have a huge impact.
