BREAKING: The Supreme Court will allow a safe, commonly used abortion pill, mifepristone, to remain

BREAKING: The Supreme Court will allow a safe, commonly used abortion pill, mifepristone, to remain FDA-approved and accessible. But this fight does not end here. Mifepristone’s approval is still in jeopardy. With bans to some or all abortions in states across the country, it’s necessary that this medication is protected. Opponents of reproductive rights have made it clear: they will not stop at overturning Roe. They want to end all access to abortion and make our own personal medical decisions for us. We’re fighting back. [There’s still time to add your name to the People’s Brief with Planned Parenthood. Will you join us? >>]( [SIGN YOUR NAME »]( Here's the email we sent previously: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend — A federal judge in Texas tried to end access to a safe abortion medicine, mifepristone. Then another federal court largely agreed with his ruling, threatening access to this essential medication. Mifepristone is the first of two pills used in most medication abortions in the U.S., also known as “the abortion pill.” The Supreme Court appropriately stepped in and allowed mifepristone to remain FDA-approved and accessible for now. This fight does not end here. Mifepristone’s approval is still in jeopardy as the case works its way through the appeals process. With bans to some or all abortions in states across the country, it’s necessary that this medication is protected. What we need right now is to hear from you — and the millions of other people who want to protect abortion access and stop anti-abortion rights groups and lawmakers from weaponizing our courts. [Speak out now — add your name to the People’s Brief with Planned Parenthood.]( [SIGN YOUR NAME »]( Like so many other attacks on abortion rights and access, the effort to ban mifepristone isn’t about upholding the law. And it certainly isn’t about protecting people’s health — mifepristone was first approved by the FDA more than 20 years ago, has been used by more than 5 million people in the United States, and has a safety record of more than 99%. This is about a coordinated, nationwide assault on abortion. It’s about denying the right to make decisions about our own bodies, and futures. It’s about taking effective tools away from doctors and making it harder for them to give their patients the care they need. Don’t let those who want to end access to abortion abuse our court system. [Sign on to the Planned Parenthood People’s Brief to protect abortion access >>]( [SIGN YOUR NAME »]( This isn’t the first time that groups working to ban abortion have used the courts as weapons to block access to care. They don’t care about legal precedent, about fundamental rights, or about the health of pregnant people. Planned Parenthood will continue to do everything we can to protect access to care. We will fight — in the courts, in Congress, and in communities across the country to protect our rights and expand and restore access. Help strengthen and grow our movement, and make your voice heard.
