Friend, almost every day there are more revelations around Justice Clarence Thomasâ corruption. And each day that passes is another day without any ethics reforms for the Supreme Court. [Sign the petition to Congress: Stop the corruption! The Supreme Court must be made to follow basic ethics standards.]( [SIGN THE PETITION](
Hereâs the latest: Thomas [accepted private school tuition]( for his grandnephew, whom Thomas raised as a son, from Harlan Crow, deepening their financial ties. Thomas, of course, didn't report the payments, although he did disclose another gift for his grandnephewâs education from another individual in 2002. Meanwhile, it was just revealed that Thomasâ wife, also [accepted tens of thousands of dollars]( while the benefactor, a conservative judicial activist, asked that her name be left off the financial paperwork. That benefactor later had business before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court exists to rule justly and fairly, and as these revelations of conflicts-of-interest continue to arise, it becomes clearer and clearer everyday this is not happening. We must restore transparency and accountability in the U.S. Supreme Court. We are calling on Congress to ensure that by passing the Supreme Court Ethics Act. The Senate Judiciary Committee conducted a [hearing]( this week to investigate corruption in the Supreme Court. Hereâs why, and itâs actually quite shocking, and deeply disappointing: - Justice Clarence Thomas secretly [accepted luxury trips]( from a major GOP donor who also [bought property]( from Clarence Thomas that he did not disclose. The GOP donor, Harlow Crow, [had business before the court](âThomas did not recuse himself. - Thomasâ wife, Ginni, has caused a slew of conflicts-of-interest including her part in attempting to [overthrow the U.S. government](, side [income deals](, and [anonymous donations](. - Justice Brett Kavanaugh started off his SCOTUS run with [83 ethics complaints](, not to mention [sexual assault allegations](. - Justice Neil Gorsuch just happened to [sell off property]( right after his SCOTUS confirmation to a law firm with business in front of the courtâGorsuch did not recuse himself. - Justice Amy Coney Barrett received [millions of dollars]( in support of her SCOTUS confirmation from a dark money group with business before the courtâConey Barrett did not recuse herself. - Chief Justice John Roberts, the leader of the pack, also has conflicts-of-interest stemming from his spouse, Jane, who [earned millions]( of dollars recruiting lawyers for firms who have business before the Supreme CourtâRoberts did not recuse himself from those cases.
So what did we get out of that hearing? Yes, Congress can pass ethical standards for the Supreme Court. In fact, it is their constitutional authority to do so. Supreme Court Justices must be held to account for flouting the ethical rules that apply to every other judge in the country. It is Congressâ constitutional right to ensure that. And it is our right to have our highest court in the land free of corruption. [Sign the petition to Congress: Stop the corruption!
