Friend, I wanted to share with you something that Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas said recently in an internal Slack communication, because this is really important to understanding Daily Kos' current financial situation: He first references a letter Buzzfeed's CEO sent to the company explaining the challenges they faced and unfortunately, couldn't overcome. Just last week, [Buzzfeed]( announced that they would be shutting down their newsroom and laying off staff. And he is right, it is tough for any news outlet depending on advertising dollars to make ends meet. Across the board, advertisers are paying less for people to see their ads, which means dwindling advertising revenue to help meet our budget needs. When Daily Kos first started, we relied only on advertising revenue to cover our costs. However, as Daily Kos grew, advertising just didn't cut it anymore. So, we evolved and diversified our revenue sources. Which brings me to the most important thing he said, praising you behind your back: "Without our community, we'd be toast" Donations from Daily Kos readers and activists now account for the majority of our revenue. We literally cannot continue producing the quality of work you have come to expect from us without your support, or, in other words, we'd be toast. [Over the last few months, we have had to rely on the generosity of the Daily Kos community more and more. That's why I am writing to you today, to ask, again, for your help. We need to raise another $30,626 by the end of the month to hit our fundraising goal. Can donate $5 or whatever is meaningful to you to help us reach our goal?]( [DONATE]( Thank you for all you do, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos If you wish to donate by mail instead, please send a check to Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612. Contributions to Daily Kos are not tax deductible. Sent via [ActionNetwork.org](.
