Friend, [sign and send the petition to your members of Congress: No cruel cuts. Pass a clean funding bill to raise the debt limit.]( [Sign and send the petition]( Our debt limit [was reached](in January, and the U.S. Treasury is now using "extraordinary measures" to avoid a default. However, rather than pass a clean funding bill to extend the debt limit and avert fiscal calamity, House Republicans are still demanding awful cuts and irrelevant policy changes. The long-awaited "plan" that Speaker Kevin McCarthy introduced on April 19th would [impose $4.5 trillion in cuts]( to social programs, in exchange for raising the debt limit by $1.5 trillion. This [would include]( cutting Food Stamps, Medicaid, green energy programs and blocking President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan. Experts say that this would cost [2.6 million American jobs](, and lead us into a recession. [Sign and send the petition: No irrelevant policy changes or draconian budget cuts. We must pass a clean funding bill on the debt limit to avoid a financial meltdown.]( [Sign and send the petition]( McCarthy's bill is a right-wing fantasy that could never pass under normal circumstances. That's why Republicans are trying to create a crisis by refusing to raise the debt ceiling, in the hopes that they can pass these cuts as a result of their self-created crisis. Every member must hear from constituents that the only appropriate solution is a clean funding bill to extend the debt limit. Let us be clear: A clean funding bill does not authorize or allocate new federal spending. It simply allows the U.S. Treasury to borrow funds to cover spending already approved by Congress. And it was extended three times during the Trump years without negotiations. [Sign and send the petition to Congress: You've had three months to address this crisis to avert fiscal calamity. Pass a clean funding bill to extend the debt limit. Period.]( [Sign and send the petition]( Keep fighting, Paul Hogarth, Daily Kos Daily Kos needs you now more than ever We are falling behind our projections for two of our three major revenue streams: advertising and list building.
