Friend, President Biden struck a chord last week with the State of the Union address—because now, Republicans are insisting they really do want to save Social Security and Medicare. They are lying, and it's now on us to remain vigilant. [Sign if you agree: Republicans want to cut Medicare and Social Security.]( [Sign the petition]( Social Security and Medicare are lifelines that all Americans rely on. And Republicans have been on a warpath for years to privatize them. Only when they get exposed on it—such as in the current debt limit fight—do they act obtuse and pretend to have had nothing to do with it. President Biden [nailed it last week]( in Florida. “Republicans don’t like being called out on this,” he said. They sure don’t. “A lot of Republicans—their dream is to cut Social Security and Medicare. Well, let me say this: If that’s your dream, I’m your nightmare." We must never let these Republicans forget. We must never let anyone forget. For today, and all future budget fights, we need to be vigilant to protect Social Security and Medicare. [Sign if you agree: Republicans want to cut Medicare and Social Security.]( [Sign the petition]( Keep fighting, Paul Hogarth, Daily Kos P.S. Below is an email that we sent you on this last week. --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, [sign if you agree: Republicans want to cut Medicare and Social Security. They are lying when they say they don't.]( [Sign the petition]( At the State of the Union, Republicans [were apoplectic]( when President Biden derided them for trying to hold the debt limit hostage over spending cuts—such as Social Security and Medicare. They disrupted the speech, [denied this charge forcefully](, and [called him a liar](. Republicans do want to cut Medicare & Social Security, and they were just angry that Biden [had exposed them]( for who they are. They know their positions are not politically popular, so now they're doing all they can to deny it. - Florida Senator Rick Scott—who chaired the National Republican Senatorial Committee last year—wrote a [plan to propose sunsetting]( "all federal legislation" every five years. That includes Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. - Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson wants to put Social Security and Medicare [on the chopping block "every year."]( - Utah senator Mike Lee—who was [visibly upset]( during Biden's speech—said it is his objective "to phase out Social Security. To pull it up by the roots and get rid of it." Republicans can run, but they can't hide. We're glad Biden [got them to applaud]( that Social Security and Medicare are "off the books," but make no mistake—they will try to cut them again. And we must be vigilant to keep demanding that we keep these crucial lifelines.
