Friend, all of these things are just like the others: lead paint, asbestos, and gas stoves. That’s right, they all pose harmful health risks. Now, one of those things is not regulated like the others – and I bet you can guess which. And yet, a new study shows the [extreme exposure risks]( to Americans inside of their homes, and it’s impacting our children. [Sign the petition: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission must take action to protect children from gas stove pollution.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Of course, the fossil fuel industry has known for years that exposure to gas stoves in homes risks our health, especially the health of our children. Much like the tobacco industry did when it was discovered how dangerous cigarettes are, the gas industry is doing everything it can to discredit what the science is saying to stop regulators from protecting people's health. And the [GOP]( is falling for fossil fuel’s talking points hook, line, and sinker. But we won’t fall for industry messaging tactics or anti-science conspiracies (see also climate deniers, anti-vaxxers, and flat-earthers). We have the science, and we will protect our families. [The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission must act to keep our air clean and children safe. Add your name to the petition and demand U.S. regulators protect children from gas stove pollution.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thanks for all you do, Erin Tulley, Daily Kos P.S. Below is an email we sent out earlier urging the federal government to protect children from gas stove pollution: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, [sign the petition: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission must take action to protect children from gas stove pollution.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( There’s been a growing body of evidence going all the way back to the [1970s]( that gas stoves are bad for your health – and now another piece of the puzzle has fallen into place. A [study]( found that in the U.S., 1 in 8 cases of childhood asthma is caused by gas stoves – a startling stat that’s on par with the risks posed by secondhand smoke. The fossil fuel industry has known for decades that gas stoves emit dangerous levels of formaldehyde, methane, nitrogen oxides, and other pollutants – it just hasn’t cared. Even in the face of this latest research, the fossil fuel industry is still pushing to add gas hook ups to new buildings and doom another generation of children to asthma and poor lung health. Enough. [Sign the petition: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission must take action to protect children from gas stove pollution.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Nearly 100 cities across North America – as well as the state of Washington, the state of California and maybe soon the state of New York – are working on or have already passed policies to electrify new and existing buildings in order to protect their residents and the climate. Now it’s time for the federal government to get on board. [Sign the petition and demand U.S. regulators to protect children from gas stove pollution.]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thanks for all you do, Erin Tulley, Daily Kos Daily Kos Relies on Readers Like You We don't have billionaire backers like some right-wing media outlets.
