Good news, friend, thanks to thousands of Daily Kos readers and activists giving what they can, we hit our January fundraising goal; with time to spare. Now for the bad news: We are behind on our other revenue streams. Unlike other news media outlets that rely solely on advertising, Daily Kos relies on three sources of revenue: community fundraising, advertising, and list building, in which Democratic campaigns pay for us to offer our readers connections to candidates for office. Even though we have exceeded our fundraising goal, we are lagging on meeting our goals for our other revenue sources, especially list building. We need to continue to raise more funds to offset our shortfalls in other areas and cover our budget expenses. Friend, I know we have leaned on you a lot this month, and frankly, the last year, but contributions from the Daily Kos community is now our largest source of income to cover our needs. [If you can, please support Daily Kos by donating $5 by the end of the day.]( Thank you for all you do, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, there once was a time when Daily Kos was like many other media outlets, relying solely on advertising revenue to cover our budgetary needs. Unfortunately, those times are long gone. Over the past decade there have been numerous reasons why advertising revenue has plummeted. Namely big tech companies like Facebook, Apple, Amazon and Google taking up an ever growing portion of available advertising revenue. In 2022, [68% of advertising revenue]( went to these four companies. Daily Kos was thankfully smart and diversified our revenue streams. Unlike other media outlets, this shielded us from the dire impact of shrinking revenue. However, as much as that strategy sustained us for nearly a decade, we are now facing a budget deficit. Donations of just a few dollars, or more, have been Daily Kos' most sustainable and reliable source of income to cover our budget needs. That's why I am asking for your help today, friend: [Daily Kos still needs to raise $71,658 by the end of January to cover our budget costs. Can you donate $5 today to support our continued work?]( [DONATE]( Thanks you for all you do, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos If you wish to donate by mail instead, please send a check to Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
