Friend, on December 1, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance Araceli Martínez-Olguín

Friend, on December 1, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance Araceli Martínez-Olguín's judicial nomination! Now we need the full Senate to confirm her. Martínez-Olguín is the first of President Biden’s nominees to have dedicated her career to immigrants’ rights, and would be only the second Latina to have ever served on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. She currently serves as a Supervising Attorney at the National Immigration Law Center (NILC). Prior to this, she established the Immigrants’ Rights Project for East Palo Alto’s Community Legal Services, joined the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, held various roles at the ACLU, and worked with the National Day Laborer Organizing Network. She also trained future lawyers as a lecturer at the University of California Berkeley School of Law, and clerked for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. At NILC, Martínez-Olguín [leads class action litigation]( protecting the rights of people who are seeking a pathway to citizenship under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. While at the ACLU, she successfully challenged discriminatory laws in Arizona and Nebraska that denied driver’s licenses solely due to immigration status. She also successfully represented a Muslim woman who was fired from her job for wearing a hijab at work. Additionally, she has defended immigrant workers forced into unpaid labor, supported women of color in employment discrimination cases, and challenged a Kentucky school district’s discriminatory segregation of its middle-school students on the basis of sex. Martínez-Olguín has dedicated her entire career to the pursuit of equal justice for all. Her vast professional and lived experience makes her a valuable addition to the federal judiciary. The Senate must move swiftly to confirm her to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California before the end of this congressional session.
