Friend, unfortunately, it wasn't all good news this election cycle. In Florida, not only did Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Marco Rubio win re-election, Republicans now hold supermajorities in both chambers of the state legislature. For the first time since Reconstruction, no Democrat will hold statewide office in Florida. As Democrats celebrate defying precedent and predictions in many critical races across the nation, Floridians are now facing a terrifying prospect: An emboldened, authoritarian governor and a fully compliant state legislature. [Ron DeSantis has been a disaster for the people of Florida and now, as he prepares to run for president, he is a growing threat for the rest of the country. Donate $6—$1 for each organization—to help six local groups representing Florida's left flank rebuild their war chests so they have the resources to fund a grassroots army able to take on one of the most extreme state governments in the nation.]( [DONATE]( DeSantis wants to be president, and is doing all he can to inherit and capitalize on Donald Trump's extremism. As he does so, he will be egged on by the GOP state legislature. As a result, Floridians will continue to be collateral damage to his White House ambitions. His first term as governor was marked by the [worst lawmaking sessions]( in recent history: Outrageous assaults on voting rights (which served to strengthen the GOP during the midterm election), authoritarian crackdown on protests and legal protections for motorists who mow down protesters, banning trans children from participating in sports, and more. Among his worst offenses? Using taxpayer money to traffick 50 asylum seekers in an unbelievably cruel political stunt. DeSantis has promised more of the same in his second term, saying during his victory speech last week that Florida has "rewritten the political map." And this time, he has Fox News and a chorus of prominent Republicans championing his fascistic agenda. This is not a person we can let anywhere near the Oval Office. Weakening him now is our best chance of stopping him in the future. [Over the next two years, our partners in Florida will be laser focused on blocking the worst of the Florida GOP's impulses while building a political movement able to fight MAGA extremists in the next election. Help six local, grassroots organizations in Florida in their battle to protect Floridians—and the country—by donating $6 or whatever you can today.]( [DONATE]( Keep fighting, Monique Teal, Daily Kos Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
