Friend, on Thursday, September 22, Senate Republicans refused to even debate the DISCLOSE Act, a popular, much-needed bill that would rein in secret spending in our elections. [The GOP uses the filibuster to block popular legislation and hold the country hostage. Donate $1 each to Democrats Cheri Beasley, John Fetterman, and Mandela Barnes today to help them render GOP obstructionists obsolete come November.]( [DONATE]( The idea of government by and for the people cannot survive if our elections are not open, fair, and free. But, as a result of the disastrous Citizens United Supreme Court decision, our democracy is becoming increasingly corrupted by vast sums of anonymous spending in American politics. The DISCLOSE Act would have corrected this growing problem by requiring organizations that spend money in federal elections and on judicial nominations to disclose their donors. There’s no place in democracy for secret expenditures by special interests to buy our elections, and failure to pass this legislation is a threat to our democracy. Americans across the political spectrum overwhelmingly support knowing who is trying to influence our elections. Still, Republicans weaponized the filibuster to block the Senate from even starting a debate. It’s outrageous. [If you're ready for a Senate that puts the interests of the American people—and democracy itself—over those of powerful corporations, and stops billionaires and foreign interests from secretly buying our elections, donate $3 today to help Democrats Cheri Beasley, John Fetterman, and Mandela Barnes flip their seats blue.]( [DONATE]( Keep fighting, Monique Teal, Daily Kos Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
