Friend, months before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Texas implemented a six-week abortion ban. [Multiple challenges]( to the law made their way to the Supreme Court, but the right-wing supermajority permitted the blatantly unconstitutional ban to stay in effect, a warning sign of what was to come. We know by now that a Supreme Court filled with corruption, self-interest, and dangerous extremism won’t save us. But pivoting to focus on grassroots, on-the-ground work in states that can shift the trajectory of the nation—like Texas—will give us a fighting chance. [This year, Daily Kos is fundraising for seven organizations working to educate and mobilize frontline communities in Texas ahead of the 2022 elections. Please donate $5 to help them build and sustain democracy-building infrastructure in the deep South.]( [CLICK TO DONATE]( Before Texas’ six-week abortion ban made it to the Supreme Court, it wound its way through state courts, which are the entry point for countless human rights cases involving abortion, immigration, voting rights, and so much more. Supporting organizations that empower Texans to know their rights is crucial as extremism snakes through the judicial system—and the groups Daily Kos is partnering with this year are doing just that. In the wake of the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Radical Registrars [tabled]( at a San Antonio abortion rights rally to register voters. Executive Director Valerie Reiffert, who helped found the organization after attending Black Lives Matter protests following George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery’s murders, explained that “We’re voting for our lives.” Shifting the political tides in Texas will take grit, commitment, and most importantly, the deep knowledge of the local landscape that only community-centered, [grassroots organizations]( can provide. By sparing the cost of one or two coffees just this week, you can help build progressive infrastructure in Texas for years to come. [Friend, can we count on you to donate an amount that is meaningful to you to help frontline communities in Texas prepare for the 2022 elections?]( [CLICK TO DONATE]( In solidarity, Sarah Hogg, Daily Kos Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
