Friend, there's not much in the way of positive news about abortion rights these days, but here's a development that's definitely very, very good: Organizers in Michigan[just submitted]( 753,759 signatures to place a measure on the November ballot that would enshrine the right to an abortion in the state constitution. Not only is that far more than the 425,059 required by law, it also sets the record for the most signatures ever collected for a ballot initiative in state history. [Just get a load of it](: box after box after box after box after box … after box! It's a strong sign that Michiganders are fired up to protect abortion rights. (This picture doesn't even do it justice, you have to watch the video.) It also means the measure is almost certain to go before voters this fall, but now we have to make sure it actually succeeds. Michigan still has a 1931 law on the books banning abortion, and of course the Republican-dominated legislature is all too happy to leave it there. Fortunately, that 91-year-old law has been temporarily blocked by the courts, but the only way to trash it permanently is to pass this amendment. Daily Kos is proudly backing Reproductive Freedom for All, the group spearheading the fight for this amendment. We're also supporting efforts in Kansas and Kentucky to make sure Republicans can't erase the right to an abortion from the constitution with ballot measures in each of those states. [These are some of the most important battles we face this year. Please donate $10 now to each of these campaigns to protect abortion rights in the states.]( [DONATE]( Thank you, David Nir Political Director, Daily Kos Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
