--------------------------------------------------------------- Friend— The insurrection hearin

[Sign Democracy in Color's petition and demand that the Justice Department charge Donald Trump and his allies for their attempt to overturn the election!]( [SIGN NOW]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend— The insurrection hearings that began on June 9, 2022, reveal the latest in a long line of examples of modern-day Confederates violently clinging to the notion that America is a country for white people and not a multiracial democracy. We’ve now learned from the hearings that Trump "spurred a mob of domestic enemies of the Constitution to march to the Capitol and subvert American democracy." Even before the committee began its public hearings, there have been ample calls for Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Department of Justice to indict the former president for attempting to overturn the election and for inciting the insurrection at the Capitol. [Sign Democracy in Color's petition and demand that the Justice Department charge Donald Trump and his allies for their attempt to overturn the election!]( [SIGN NOW]( The Justice Department was originally created in 1870 to rein in the Ku Klux Klan — a white domestic terrorist group created in response to the liberation of enslaved Black people following the Civil War. Despite its original purpose and the tools available, neither Garland nor the Justice Department has given real indication on whether they intend to charge the former president. Following the compelling evidence laid bare by the Jan. 6 committee’s public hearings, the ball will ultimately fall in Garland’s court to lead the charge in prosecuting Donald Trump and his inner circle. Failing to hold the insurrectionists accountable for attempting to subvert democracy could have serious consequences, including increasing the risk of domestic terrorism and racial acts of violence. Anyone who aided and abetted Trump’s insurrection should face the full force of the laws that are designed to protect the multiracial democracy that the majority of Americans want. The fate of our democracy depends on it.
