Justice delayed doesn’t have to be justice denied!

Friend, earlier this month, President Biden signed the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act, legislation that makes lynching a federal crime, once and for all. In 1918, the first legislation calling for the outlawing of the practice was introduced by Congressman Leonidas Dyer. After more than 100 years and 200 attempts, lynching in America is finally illegal. According to the[Equal Justice Initiative]( over 4400 people were lynched between 1877 and 1950. The passing of this historic legislation comes on the heels of Congress voting to award Emmett and his mother Mamie with the [Congressional Gold Medal](. While passing this legislation is historic, and awarding Emmett and Ms. Till a medal is commendable, true justice hasn’t been rendered to the Till family as of yet. [Sign and send the petition and demand the accomplice in the murder of Emmett Till be charged with murder]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( In March, I traveled to Jackson, Mississippi to stand with the family of Emmett Till for a press conference in the Mississippi State Capitol where we then marched across the street and presented the Attorney General with over 300,000 petition signatures calling for Carolyn Bryant Donham, the only surviving accomplice in Emmett’s murder, to be held accountable for her deeds. As I stood with the surviving members of the Till family, anguish was in the building, but any feelings of despair were missing. There is still work to be done in regards to the murder of Emmett Till. Justice delayed doesn’t have to be denied. Emmett’s mother Mamie spent the rest of her life telling the world about her son Emmett. She began by opening Emmett’s casket for the world to see how her son was brutally murdered. In 2017, Carolyn Bryant Donham admitted to author Timothy Tyson that she lied to her husband, and to the jury, with her claims of Emmett Till making sexual advances and touching her. Her lies led to the murder of an innocent child. Carolyn Bryant Donham can still be charged for her participation in Emmett’s death. If we really want to bring justice to families of those killed by racial violence, we can start with the namesake of the Anti-Lynching law: Emmett Till. His family deserves justice and the surviving accomplice should be held accountable for her actions.
