Last week, the Biden administration announced that it is planning to end Title 42 in May at the Southern Border. This is a victory for people seeking asylum and for all of our partners that joined us in protesting this law. However, Biden should end Title 42 NOW and not postpone until May — this policy, which has been used more than a million times to send people seeking asylum right back into harm’s way, will continue to do so until it’s officially ended. It’s time to stop harmful anti-asylum policies at the border. [Sign Oxfam America's updated petition now, because justice delayed is justice denied.]( SIGN ON]( Gina Cummings Vice President of Alliances, Advocacy, and Policy Oxfam America Here's the email we previously sent: --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, If your home was no longer safe, where would you go? What would you take with you as you fled? What would you do if the place you thought was a refuge turned you away? For over 26 million refugees, those questions are not hypothetical; they are life and death. We are seeing this in real-time as over 3.7 million Ukrainians are forced to flee their country. Right now, we are also witnessing the highest number of forcibly displaced people since World War II, and the root causes are stark: conflict, violence, climate change, poverty, and food insecurity. [That’s why we urgently need you to sign the petition to demand the Biden administration take action to support the rights of all refugees, whether from Ukraine, Haiti, Central America, Afghanistan or beyond.]( [SIGN ON]( The Biden administration raised the yearly refugee limit to 125,000 but six months in, has only admitted fewer than 8,000 refugees. That is not nearly enough to protect those in need and does nothing to address the root causes of why people flee in the first place. We are calling on President Biden to reckon with the history of racist and anti-Black US immigration policies that have caused harm to people in need of protection. The US has the capability and moral obligation to welcome significantly more refugees, no matter where they come from. In addition, Biden should end Title 42 which has been used more than a million times to send people seeking asylum right back into harm’s way. [Sign this petition and demand the Biden administration take action to support the rights of all refugees. Sending refugees back into harm’s way is inhumane, and we won’t stand for it.]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( Thank you for speaking up, Gina Cummings Vice President of Alliances, Advocacy, and Policy Oxfam America Paid for by Oxfam America.
