Friend, [sign and send to your U.S. senators: Confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson in order to advance LGBTQ+ rights.]( [SIGN AND SEND A PETITION]( Last week, while parsing through the deluge of trans- and homophobic legislation that Republican-controlled state legislatures are fast-tracking across the country, I came across this now-viral video of high school students in Florida joyously, unapologetically [demonstrating]( their support for LGBTQ+ communities. It was a much needed reminder that while right-wing extremists are inflicting horrific violence and cruelty against our children, families, and communities, progress cannot, will not, be deterred. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson cannot stop all the worst that the ultra-conservative majority on the Supreme Court will impose on us. However, once confirmed, she will be there — along with brilliant, passionate minds like Justice Sonia Sotomayor and everyone else we will confirm — to fiercely dissent on the rulings they can't stop and, when our day finally arrives, help us expand and strengthen civil rights for LGBTQ+ communities. [Sign and send to your U.S. senators: Confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson in order to advance LGBTQ+ rights.]( [SIGN AND SEND A PETITION]( Keep fighting, Monique Teal, Daily Kos P.S. Read more about the need for equal justice below. --------------------------------------------------------------- Friend, [sign and send to your U.S. senators: Confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson in order to advance LGBTQ+ rights](. [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( Horrific bills and policies targeting LGBTQ+ youth are sweeping the country. In Texas, Gov. Abbott [directed]( teachers and medical providers to report parents who aid their children in receiving gender-affirming care to the Department of Family and Protective Services. The Florida legislature passed [legislation]( that would ban classroom discussion of sexual orientation or gender identity, largely known as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. It’s quite possible that any of these bills—or one we haven’t even seen yet—may make their way to the Supreme Court. We need to bolster the Supreme Court bench with strong, committed advocates for human rights and equal justice for all. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is exactly that kind of nominee. We can’t rely on recent victories at the Supreme Court to protect us. [In 2021](, the court refused to rule that there is a constitutional right to discriminate, but they didn’t explicitly rule that there isn’t a right to discriminate. Given that the judiciary considers all manner of LGBTQ+ litigation, including transgender student cases, this could spell trouble for non-discrimination protections in the near future.
