Friend, [sign and send the petition to your U.S. senators: Confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court!]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( On February 25, President Biden nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States. Judge Jackson is nominated to replace Justice Stephen Breyer, who is retiring at the end of this Supreme Court term. Judge Jackson is eminently qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. In June 2021, the Senate confirmed her to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, largely seen as the second most powerful court in the country. Previously, she served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia for eight and a half years. Judge Jackson has been confirmed three times by the Senate—twice unanimously, and all with bipartisan support. Prior to her time on the bench, Judge Jackson served as a federal public defender, as well as the vice chair of the Sentencing Commission, where she worked to shape criminal justice policy and reduce sentences for individuals incarcerated for drug offenses. Judge Jackson’s career demonstrates her lifelong commitment to civil rights. Her time on the federal bench—including her six hundred opinions written while on the D.C. District Court—provides us with a wealth of evidence that she is deeply dedicated to equal justice for all. Of the 115 justices who have served on the Supreme Court, 108 have been white men. There has never been a Black woman on the bench, and there have only been three justices of color in the entire court’s history. The court routinely rules on issues that disproportionately impact Black woman—like abortion, the freedom to vote, and prisons and policing—and the lack of representation is glaring. Confirming Judge Jackson is a needed step to ensure the Supreme Court actually reflects the people and communities its rulings impact each and every day. Soon, Judge Jackson’s nomination will head to the Senate Judiciary Committee. In the meantime, let’s make sure every single senator knows she has a groundswell of support.
