--------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Friend, The battle over Stephen B

[President Joe Biden has selected Ketanji Brown Jackson as his nominee to the Supreme Court. You know what time it is. The racist trolls are about to attack. Sign Demand Progress' petition to support the nominee.]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Friend, The battle over Stephen Breyer's replacement is heating up — [will you sign Demand Progress' petition and urge President Biden to make the right choice for the Supreme Court?]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( A growing, broad-based movement is calling for Biden to choose a progressive Black woman for the Supreme Court. As Rep. Ayanna Pressley said last week, "It is long overdue that we have a Black woman on the Supreme Court...We want someone that cares about workers' rights, that cares about racial justice, that cares about reproductive justice." It's not just progressives who are calling for Biden to be bold. Jennifer Rubin, a former conservative who abandoned the Republican Party after Trump became their nominee in 2016, called for Biden to pick someone who isn't "a mushy compromiser" and to instead "get the sharpest mind, the most courageous soul and the most dedicated warrior in the battle to defend democracy." Unfortunately, others are pushing Biden to pick "a mushy compromiser" who can get Republican votes, even if they won't be a bold leader for our basic rights and our democracy. The White House is vetting potential nominees, and now is the time to make our voice heard. Will you speak up in this important moment? [Sign the petition: President Biden should nominate a Black woman for the Supreme Court with a strong record on human rights, voting rights, and taking on corporate power!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Even though Breyer's retirement won't change the fact that right-wing extremists will still hold six of the nine seats on the Supreme Court, it's still an important opportunity to help reshape the Court and make it more responsive to the American people. The far right won't control the Supreme Court indefinitely. Biden's nominee could well find herself in the majority sooner rather than later, especially if we succeed in getting Congress to expand the Supreme Court. However it happens, Biden's nominee will shape the future of the judiciary and rule on some of the most important decisions facing this country. Even in dissent, her opinions and interpretations will have influence for years to come. The Supreme Court will soon hear cases about abortion rights, voting rights, guns, government's ability to regulate corporate power, and much more. We need to make sure President Biden's choice will side with the American people, rather than the far right and big corporations. Will you speak up now to urge President Biden to make the right choice for this important vacancy? [Add your name: President Biden should nominate a Black woman for the Supreme Court with a strong record on human rights, voting rights, and taking on corporate power!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Keep fighting, Demand Progress Paid for by Demand Progress.
