Friend, last week, Arizona progressives [announced]( plans to put a game-changing ballot initiative to protect the freedom to vote on the November ballot. For the last two years, MAGA militants in Arizona have terrorized hardworking public election officials in an anti-democratic effort to overturn the will of voters in 2020 election. Republicans in the state legislature rewarded them by enacting far-reaching voter suppression laws. All Arizonans deserve access to the ballot, no matter race, gender, zip code, or income. The new initiative, called Arizonans for Fair Elections, would roll back recent changes approved by Republican lawmakers to voting and ballot initiative laws. It would also ensure free and fair elections by: - Protecting the popular, and bipartisan, permanent early voting list; - Combating lobbyist corruption & big money in politics; - Expanding in-person early voting; - Safeguarding the rights of tribal voters & voters w disabilities; and more. Additionally, the initiative requires two-thirds of the Arizona House and Senate to sign off on any changes to voting laws, all but canceling the ability of the state legislature to enact any further anti-democratic measures. Civic engagement is always done best by local activists, and so supporting the local organizations in Arizona who are educating targeted voters about their rights, and helping them navigate the new local anti-voter laws they face, is essential in any effort to cancel Republican voter suppression. [Arizona progressives need to collect 237,645 signatures from registered voters by July 7 to qualify for the 2022 ballot. In both the 2018 and 2020 elections, our grassroots partners on the ground in Arizona have proven their ability to deliver. Help ensure they have the resources they need by chipping in $1 each to six organizations that are working to protect and expand voting rights in Arizona.]( [DONATE]( Keep fighting, Monique Teal, Daily Kos Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
