Friend, [sign and send the petition to your U.S. senators: Confirm Biden’s Supreme Court nominee in order to defend and expand abortion access](. [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( We are in the midst of a pivotal moment in our country’s history. President Biden has reaffirmed his commitment to nominate the first Black woman to the Supreme Court following Justice Stephen Breyer’s retirement, and a nomination is expected by the end of February. For hundreds of years, the court has made decisions on civil and human rights issues that disproportionately impact Black women without any representation from Black women on the bench. Soon, that will no longer be the case. [Sign and send the petition to your U.S. senators: Confirm Biden’s Supreme Court nominee in order to defend and expand abortion access.]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( Of the myriad issues the court rules on, abortion rights and access cases have some of the [heaviest impact]( on Black and brown women. Anti-abortion legislation has been specifically crafted to target low-income people of color who may not be able to travel to a neighboring city or out of state to access care—not to mention the child care and time off from work they may need to make an appointment in the first place. We’ve seen the influence the Supreme Court has on abortion in its recent rulings allowing Texas’ six-week abortion ban to continue. If that wasn’t enough, we’re also waiting for a ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a Mississippi case that has the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade. While Biden’s pick won’t be part of that decision, confirming a nominee with a commitment to upholding human rights for all will be crucial for our shared goal of abortion justice for all. The promise to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court isn’t lip service. This is about ensuring that the nation’s highest court actually reflects the people and communities its rulings directly impact each and every day.
