Friend, the anniversary of the January 6 insurrection is a reminder of just how fragile our democracy is, how close we came to losing it and what is at stake in the upcoming midterm elections. Leading up to the 2020 election, many said that it was the most important election of our lifetimes. However, it was the events that took place afterward that shook the foundation of our democracy. The lies and conspiracy theories from Trump Republicans about election fraud have sown distrust in our electoral system on a scale we have not previously experienced. Worse, over the past year Republicans in state legislatures across the country introduced nearly 400 voter suppression bills and enacted over 30 of them into law. With state legislatures convening in the new year, we can expect the GOP will do everything in their power to continue making it harder for people to cast their ballots. Unfortunately, this is only a taste of what is to come. The outcome of the 2022 midterm elections could have consequences not just for the next presidential election in 2024, but on the future of our electoral democracy. Voter suppression is a fundamental attack on democracy that Republicans have deployed repeatedly to maintain their power. [We're fighting back. Daily Kos has teamed up with grassroots organizations working on the ground in frontline communities in decisive states to protect and expand voting rights while also educating and turning out voters. Can you give $1 to each of these groups that are laying the groundwork leading up to the 2022 elections?]( Thanks for all you do, Amanda McKay, Daily Kos If you wish to donate by mail instead, please send a check to Daily Kos, PO Box 70036, Oakland, CA, 94612.
