Friend, [sign and send the petition to Congress: Protect our communities from predatory banking practices -- fund Postal Banking.]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( Millions of Americans live in banking deserts -- regions without immediate access to an actual brick and mortar bank -- and one in four households in the U.S. are unbanked or underbanked, forcing them to rely on expensive check cashers. Lower-income communities often rely heavily on check-cashing stores to get money orders, cash checks, and pay their bills. And big banks continue to utilize predatory practices — payday loans, high-fee prepaid debit cards, overdraft fees — that take advantage of unbanked and underbanked Americans. One solution: offer basic banking at post offices nationwide. Families struggling to make ends meet would gain access to traditional basic banking services at their local post office, instead of being forced to use check cashiers and other predatory services. [Sign and send the petition to Congress: Fund the Postal Banking Pilot Programs in the 2022 Budget Appropriations Bill!]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( Postal banking is critical to closing the racial wealth gap and is long overdue. It would offer a safe financial alternative to predatory financial services such as expensive prepaid debit cards, check cashing, and overdraft protection fees by providing essential services nationwide, especially in Black, Indigenous, and rural communities. Additionally, Postal Banking would strengthen the USPS bottom line by offering low-fee ATMs, check cashing, and bill payments that would still generate more than $1 billion in revenue each year, according to a report from the USPS Inspector General. We must demand Congress act now to protect all Americans from predatory banking.
