Friend, the pandemic has made child care centers and nursing homes hotbeds for infection. The brave workers in those facilities who put their lives on the line on a daily basis to look after our children and elders need respect and relief. Congress is currently working to finalize what will be in the Build Back Better Act, including a massive, $400 billion proposed investment into the care economy. The proposal includes investments expanding in-home and community-based care services for the aging and people with disabilities, funding for paid family and medical leave, universal pre-k for 3 and 4 year-olds, lowering the cost of child care, boosting nutrition programs, and more. [Sign and send a petition to Congress: The Build Back Better Act must keep substantial investments in the care economy.]( [SIGN AND SEND THE PETITION]( Increasing wages for care workers would have a positive effect on racial and gender wealth inequality. Many home care workers currently earn just under [$17,000]( a year with one in six living below the poverty line. Today over [90 percent]( of home care workers are women, more than half are women of color, and 31 percent are immigrants. Additionally, lowering child care costs will increase economic security for parents. Further, public investments in the health and education of young children have proven to provide one of the best returns on investment of all types of government spending.
